Food Science and Food Safety: “Rainbow noodles” DIY Workshop at Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi)

The Faculty of STEM arranged a visit to the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) for class 3E on Life-wide Learning Day (19th November 2021). Students attended the “Rainbow noodles” DIY Workshop organized by Dr. Emily Tam, to learn the knowledge of natural dye for food processing. Extraction of natural dye from food was demonstrated to students. Students were given an opportunity to make their own noodles in different colours. Dr. Tam also introduced the Bachelor programs of THEi about food science to the S3 students. Our students were satisfied with this workshop on food science.

Dr Emily Tam gave a short briefing to students about the procedure of making "Rainbow noodles" in the Food Processing Laboratory.
Dr. Tam introduced the method and the principle of extracting natural dye from different food.
Students were excited to choose their favourite colour for making "Rainbow noodles".
Students successfully made their own "Rainbow noodles" with natural dye.
Dr. Tam shared the Bachelor programmes about food science and food safety with our students.
