New Era of the Design and Technology Department

Since our school embraces new technology and knowledge to provide our students with the aptitude skills and adaptability that will ensure they are capable of tackling and moulding tomorrow's world.

The integration of cutting edge technology within an innovative science and technology curriculum allows our students access to unlimited research and interactive educational content, turning classroom into centre of student-directed inquiry. Mixed with technology devices, our students are equipped with technology that allow them to pursue their curiosity, explore ideas, and share them globally, taking charge of their own learning. In order to support the development of our curriculum, the renovation of Design and Technology Workshop took place during summer 2018. It is equipped with a comprehensive range of traditional and high-tech machinery, an electronics corner and lab top computers packed with professional software.

The department maintains consistently high standards. Pupils receive guidance and encouragement from a dedicated team of teachers and a technician, all of whom care passionately about their particular area of expertise and constantly strive to support their pupils' ambitions. During practical sessions our team of highly-skilled teachers work alongside the technician to provide expert guidance, ensuring pupils have every opportunity to fulfil their creative potential.

Believing many students are talented in some areas, we seek to realize their potential and creativity. To install quality education, our school promotes effective learning practices in the classroom through the introduction of the Enrichment Course. Besides spotting high-end students by observing their performance, we will also help to identify and assess the hidden talents of the students. We will offer them pull-out programs inside school, hire coaches or tutors, and subsidize them to take courses run by tertiary institutions. Apart from academic training, we also provide support to students with talents and skills in music, performing arts, sports and other areas. A high standard of achievement is expected as the students are very able and rise to interesting challenges. The department actively supports many of the activities in the school, School Info Day, Creativity Fortnight and TNK Maker Festival. Students take part in competitions if they are valuable learning experiences. Making links with the community whenever possible. We consider visits outside school to museums, design centres, industry and business very important. We are also extending links with different types of school in the education sector to work with teachers on projects where our facilities can help us jointly deliver practical technology to younger students.

Students work individually or in teams to design, build and test robots, drawing on scientific curiosity and, for many, the love of gadgets and programming. There is scope to enter a number of robotics competitions.
The Department is equipped with a range of cutting edge software and machinery for Computer Aided Design and Manufacture. Intricate patterned and engraved artefacts are produced, impossible to achieve with traditional methods.
Students are encouraged to participate widely in local and international competitions while liaising with our many associates in industry to gain experience of design and technology in action. Their amazing talents enable them to gain high-achieving academic standards of most awards.
A whole new world of robotics has opened up to students at our school with the arrival of a mechanical arm to our new Design and Technology Workshop. It is being used to enhance design technology projects at the school, with students programming its actions and exploring its potential range of uses.
Automotive design courses are offered through the Design and Technology curriculum.
