Introduction to school facilities by ERMC: The new Irene Yu Library

In order to fulfill our mission, our school library’s renovation project creates an environment that facilitates interaction, creativity, innovation, learning, and new access to resources and information. The renovation project includes facility upgrades and program enhancement. We appreciate Dr. Tong Nai Kan’s (1999-2000 Director of Po Leung Kuk) recognition of our students’ successes and are grateful that he is supporting our school through his generous donation as we embark on an exciting new chapter for our library. The renovation of our school library took place during summer 2018.

The dedication ceremony of Iren Yu Library took place on Friday, December 9, at the new library, located on 5/F. The ceremony was officiated by Ms Irene Yu.

The library is a rectangular structure, designed to blend the best of traditional library services with a wide range of electronic resources. The library is equipped with the latest in computer and telecommunications technology. There is an outdoor transparent glassy led video screen for promoting library activities and showing educational videos.

The library includes the main stacks, a study room, a reading corner, leisure reading area and a computer corner. A photocopier is available for students to copy the past assessment papers.

A wide variety of books for students and teachers are available for recreational reading and research. Magazines and audiovisual materials are also on hand. The library offers audiobooks, movies and music that students may access in the library or from home. The library also offers the WiseNews service that is an electronic database updated with daily news articles for retrieving news articles from Hong Kong. Additional regularly scheduled activities are available every month.

Part of our library mission is to provide an environment of lifelong learning and enrichment for the entire and diverse community. We hope the students will find the new library a pleasant and enjoyable place where they can study, improve their knowledge, or just relax with a good book.
